My textile dyeing batches keep coming out patchy in colour, what's causing it?

Patchy, uneven dyeing is most often caused by poor fabric preparation, water hardness or metal ions in the water, dye added too fast, or temperature and liquor circulation that are uneven. Test the process water and check the preparation stage before changing dyes.

Cotton fabric dye keeps bleeding out after the first wash

Dye that bleeds in washing usually has not fully fixed to the fibre, because of the dye class used, too short a fixation time or temperature, the wrong fixation conditions, or poor washing off of unfixed dye after dyeing. Your dyeing technologist can check the fixation and wash-off steps.

Fixation conditions differ by dye class, so the correction depends on which dyes you use. This page does not advise on dye recipes.

My fireproof fabric coating stops working after few washes

Many flame retardant finishes are water soluble and wash out, so they are only suited to items that are not laundered. Wash-durable flame retardancy needs a durable finish or an inherently flame resistant fibre. Your textile technologist and a flammability test lab should advise.

Leather hides coming out of our tannery have uneven color after the tanning process

Uneven colour after tanning often traces to uneven penetration of the tanning agents, differences between hides, pH not controlled evenly through the process, or iron and other contamination in the water. Your tanning technologist should check pH control and water quality first.

Leather comes out stiff and cracks when we fold it after tanning

Stiff, cracking leather is commonly caused by too little fatliquor, over-drying, uneven tanning, or problems in the neutralisation stage. It is a tanning process question for your technologist.

Treated wood furniture still getting termite damage after few months

Termite damage in treated wood usually means the preservative did not penetrate deep enough, the treatment level was too low for the risk, or the wood was cut after treatment and the untreated core exposed. Wood preservation is regulated in many places and should be done to the applicable standard.

A wood preservation specialist or pest control professional should inspect the damage. Borates are one class of wood preservative. Taskon makes Di Sodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate and Boric Acid. This page does not advise on treatment levels.

Wood used in furniture turning soft and getting fungal patches

Soft wood with fungal patches is decay, and decay needs moisture. Treatment will not stop it if the wood stays damp, so find and remove the moisture source first. Badly decayed wood should be replaced, and new wood treated before use by a qualified treater.

Borate wood preservatives are one option for protection against decay fungi in suitable conditions. Taskon makes Di Sodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate. Treatment should follow the standard that applies where you work.

Who can advise on the correct boron grade for wood preservation treatment?

The preservative, its strength and the treatment method should be set by a wood preservation specialist to the standard that applies to your wood and its use. Taskon’s technical team can confirm the grades of its boron compounds against the specification you are given.

Paper coming off our machine doesn't hold the print ink, it smudges right away

Ink that smudges on paper is usually a surface sizing or surface strength problem, a change in the paper’s absorbency, or a mismatch between the ink and the paper. Test the sheet’s sizing and absorbency against its specification, and check whether the ink changed.

Rubber sheets not curing evenly during vulcanization, stay sticky after moulding

Uneven or incomplete cure is commonly caused by poor dispersion of curatives in the compound, incorrect curing time or temperature, uneven heat in the mould, or a change in a compound ingredient. A cure test on the compound will show whether it is the compound or the process.

Zinc oxide is an activator in many rubber compounds. Taskon makes Zinc Oxide, published at 99% min. Your rubber technologist should set the formulation.

Rubber tyre compound stays soft and doesn't set hard after moulding

A compound that stays soft is usually under-cured: too short or too cool a cure, too little curative or activator, poor mixing, or a raw material out of specification. A cure test compared against the compound’s reference will locate the cause.

Who can advise on the right oxide grade for my rubber compound formulation?

The compound formulation, including the activator grade, is set by your rubber technologist. Taskon’s technical team can confirm whether its zinc oxide meets the specification they give you.

Sodium thiosulphate supplier for photography and textile desizing use

Taskon Industries does not list sodium thiosulphate among its 56 products. It makes other sodium compounds, including sodium sulphate and sodium nitrate. Send your requirement and we will tell you plainly whether anything we make meets it.
